Birth of a Tradition
For the first time in the history of Baden-Württemberg, a state in south-west Germany, took a place a celebration festivity honoring the Gran Duchess Olga Nikolaevna (1822-1892), the granddaughter of Russian emperor Paul the First and a daughter of Russian Czar Nikolai I, and later a queen of Württemberg, under the name of "Days of Olga the Queen". The festival got a name of Olga's Day after Olga Nikolaevna. This tradition was born thanks to the effort of the first priest of Stuttgart, Ilya Limberg (Erstpiester Ilya Limberger), and the diligence and initiative of the leader of "Our New Times" foundation for the support of Russian speaking diasporas in Germany.
His Highness Duke Friedrich von Württemberg expressed his desire that the day of "Olga the Queen" became a tradition in Baden-Württemberg. "We have created a tradition", noted the chairman of the foundation, Alexander Reichrudel, when delivering his speech to the assembly, " and from now on this day, July 24th, will become a traditional memorial holiday in Germany honoring the Queen of Württemberg, Olga Nikolaevna, and will be celebrated in Baden-Württemberg annually on July the 24th".
